creating a new bibliography

I am a novice Zotero user. In the process of writing a large book, I used Zotero to create a bibliography with over 2100 items. I now want to start a new book and create a new bibliography. How do I do this? Thanks.
  • How did you use Zotero for your previous book? Working on a new book should not be very different:
    - add new references to your Zotero library while researching your new topic(s)
    - insert the references into your document(s) while actually writing the book
    - repeat until the book is complete :-)

A new bibliography for a a new article/book/report/etc. is not fundamentally different from all previous bibliographies, it's just a different selection of references from your library.
I know my perception of your issue might be incorrect, so feel free to elaborate on your needs or the problems you are seeing.
  • I guess what I meant to say is that I want to create a new library. It's a new project, and I want to avoid the clutter of a 2100-item library for one that will be a lot shorter.
  • Understood, thanks!
Creating a new library isn't necessary, and probably not advisable as far as I know.
Collections could be useful in your case: https://www.zotero.org/support/collections_and_tags
You could create a collection containing all references from your previous book, and a new one where you save the new references of your new book, and so on. Then you can easily re-use relevant references from the 1st book for the new one (or any future work), while keeping track of where these references are cited. This doesn't create multiple copies since any given reference can be part of multiple collections.

    I hope this helps.
  • You can create a new Zotero group on the Zotero.org website and use that library for the project. You don’t have to invite anyone else to the group. I always make a new group for projects like systematic reviews that need to have their contents separated from other work.
  • Thanks to both of you. Just what I need.
