Citation numbering starts from 1 again in Word document
I am using Zotero to cite papers in a Word document. However, I have noticed that the citation numbering starts from 1 again even thought I have other papers cited if I do not use the document for a while. I have tried the following steps to fix the problem, but none of them have worked:
- I have made sure that I am saving the document in .doc or .docx format.
- I have checked the citation style that I am using. It is the same citation style that I was using when I first created the document.
- I have reviewed the list of citations in my document. No citations are missing or out of order.
- I have reinstalled the Zotero plugin for Word.
I am not sure what else to do. I would appreciate any help that you can provide.

The citations are already flattened by something you did previously, so the format you're saving in now is irrelevant.
