Zotero 7 Unresponsive bug

Clicking on anything in Zotero, such as editing item information, opening an item, and moving the mouse over a toolbar option may result in the following error. Zotero goes into an unresponsive state and sometimes there is no pop-up. This happened in an update after September 2

Zotero is already running, but is not responding. The old Zotero process must be closed toopen a new window.

This is especially common when dragging items into other directories.

Often the menu cannot be called up when right-clicking on the entry bar. A large number of identical menu stitching patterns appear immediately after the stutter.

I think there may be a bug in the graphics rendering of one of the updates
  • In the settings menu, clicking on different plug-in icons will also result in the inability to switch out of the settings. Since last week these plugins and zotero were working fine, and this week it happened with multiple plugins, so I'm not sure if it's a plugin bug or zotero bug

The above is the situation where the plug-in menu in the settings bar cannot be selected. I had restarted Zotero many times before this happened, so it was very stuck, and restarting Zotero didn't seem to solve the unresponsive and stuttering situation, but rather more stuttering. After restarting the computer, this interface can work normally again. I suspect that zotero or a plugin is causing a memory leak problem, causing data to remain every time you close zotero, which becomes more and more stuttering

Disable all plugins. Unless it happens with no plugins enabled, enable your plugins one by one until the problem reoccurs.
  • I don't think it's a problem with the plugins, even if I close all the plugins I got an unresponsive situation. Sometimes the right-click entry menu doesn't pop up, sometimes the toolbar click doesn't respond, and every time the situation is different, and these problems don't necessarily occur.

As long as you restart Zotero frequently enough to reproduce this bug, I am using the latest Zotero version for Win10

Can you provide precise Steps to Reproduce with all plugins disabled?

Is this specifically with reader tabs open?
  • Red and yellow are mouse click tracks, I reproduced the bug in the second half of the gif, about 30s later, and you can see at the end that I didn't launch any plugins. Before this bug I tried to drag and drop entries to another directory, and then there was no response, but I'm not sure if this is critical

  • "launch any plugins"? No, we're talking about having any plugins enabled at all. You need to test with all plugins disabled.

And if you can reproduce the problem with all plugins disabled, we'd want to see a Debug ID for doing so, ideally using the "Restart with Logging Enabled…" option to log from Zotero startup through reproducing the problem.
  • I showed at the end of the gif that I disabled all plugins. There may be some errors in the translation I used, I didn't look carefully at every word.

  • Debug ID D1752971686

There are 3 minutes in this replay, and you can see that there is no response to multiple clicks. and I disabled all plugins at the beginning.

  • How about if you disable file syncing, or set it download files "as needed"?

You're getting repeated errors due to a bug with file syncing on Windows 10 in the Z7 beta.
  • I used WebDAV to sync files. Now I've changed to "as need" mode. It seems that the previous problem has disappeared, I will use it for a while to make sure
  • There is still a bug in the case of a conflict between multi-device file synchronization, and I don't know the specific trigger conditions
Component returned failure code: Ox80520015 (NS ERROR FILE ACCESS DENIED)[nslFile.remove]

    Debug ID: 699879995

This bug causes zotero to become unresponsive and can only kill processes using task management

Yes, I linked to the thread where we explain the status of that. You should disable file syncing for now.
  • The file in question seems to only sync the pdf file. There are no .zotero-ft-cache and .zotero-reader-state under the path. Therefore these files cannot be opened and will be stuck on the main
  • No, that's not what's happening — those files aren't related to file syncing. This is just a known issue with file syncing on Windows 10 in the Zotero 7 beta.
