Can't add journal article citation from EBSCO's Academic Search Premier on a Mac

After doing a workshop on Zotero, all the students who were using Macs (both OS 10.5 and 10.6) found they could not automatically add citations for journal articles (by clicking on the journal article icon in the address bar) from Academic Search Premier, ACM Digital Library, and Proquest's CBCA Reference. They were able to add citations for books from our library catalog (http://jupiter.eciad.ca). Clicking on the hyperlink for Known Translator Issues didn't provide any useful information. I double checked that everything was installed correctly. For the students who were on an older version of Firefox 3.0.?), we tried updating to the current version (3.5.3) and found that we were still unable to import a citation for a journal article. The version of Zotero that they used was 2.0b7.2.

I see that a new release came out later that day. I'm waiting to hear back if upgrading to the current version allows them to download articles from ACM and CBCA.

I tested this on several of the library's Macs OSX (Version 10.5.7) Firefox 3.0.7, Zotero 2.0b7.1 and wasn't able to import a journal article citation from Academic Search Premier. I was able to import citations from ACM Digital Library, Proquest's CBCA Reference, and the library catalog.

Zotero works great on my PC (Windows XP), using Firefox 3.0.10. I'm able to add book citations from our library catalog and citations for journal articles from Academic Search Premier, ACM Digital Library, and Proquest's CBCA Reference.

Any suggestions on next steps for troubleshooting?
  • There was a problem with EBSCO a few days ago, but it seems to have gone away by itself.

Can you provide example URLs (even though they're not permanent) and steps to reproduce (including what you're searching for and clicking on)?
  • Hi Dan,

I saw that problem with EBSCO from a few days ago. I tried this yesterday, and again this morning and found I still couldn't add a citation from EBSCO's Academic Search Premier.

    Here's what I did:

Keyword search for "dogs" from here: http://web.ebscohost.com.ezproxy.eciad.ca:2048/ehost/search?vid=1&hid=108&sid=ca5642a6-a2c1-4be9-9cd8-bce1d57b7cde%40sessionmgr112

Just now, on one computer, I was able to able to save several of the search results by clicking on the folder icon as well as the article. I was able to do this several times on the same computer. I wasn't able to replicate this on other computers. All of the Macs were the same OS, same version of FF and Zotero (stated above).

We have been having intermittent problems with our link resolver (CUFTS) and Academic Search Premier. Could this be related?

Let me know if having a login would be useful for you to help troubleshoot and test. I really appreciate your help.
  • This seems to have been resolved and is working as expected. Yay!
