Integrationsfehler Zotero MAC

Hi there,

I´ve just downloaded, installed and registrated zotero for mac.
My word version is up to date (version 16.74 23061100) same as the zotero version (6.0.26). The toolbar shows up in word but:
I have trouble to use zotero in a word document with the following error:

Zotero-Integrationsfehler
Ein Fehler ist beim Update Ihres Dokuments aufgetreten.

I´ve restarted my mac, I´ve tried to work in a new document, no sure what I can do else to make it work?
  • Did it work in a new, empty document?

Can you provide a Report ID after triggering the error?
  • Hi,

it did not work in a new document. Your link "Report ID" says that I can´t create a report under macOS.

    Is there another option?

It definitely doesn't say that. macOS isn't iOS.
  • Report ID 1662734736
  • [JavaScript Error: "*** -[__NSDictionaryM setObject:forKey:]: object cannot be nil (key: /Volumes/Macintosh HD 1/Applications/Microsoft Word.app:/) @[getDocument:application.m:225]" {file: "file:///Applications/Zotero.app/Contents/Resources/extensions/zoteroMacWordIntegration@zotero.org/components/zoteroMacWordIntegration.js" line: 257}]"
Have you used Zotero on this computer previously?

Go to your Word Startup folder, delete Zotero.dotm, restart Word to confirm that the plugin is completely gone, close Word, and reinstall the plugin from the Cite → Word Processors pane of the Zotero preferences. Let us know if that helps.

    If not, what macOS version?
  • (a)I haven´t used it on this computer. My version is 13.5 (22G74)
(b)I found the folder and deleted the zotero.dotm and it´s now gone from word
(c)I found also the folder where to copy the zotero.dotm file from but now I can´t find the folder where to put it back in (b)
  • I found the folder (it´s named differently) but word is not embedding zotero.

I didn't say anything about installing the plugin manually via the filesystem. See what I wrote.
  • I reinstalled the App, but now it's not showing up in word anymore.
  • Reinstall what app? Again:
reinstall the plugin from the Cite → Word Processors pane of the Zotero preferences
  • Ok, sorry I got that wrong. I did that and it came up with the same error:

    Zotero-Integrationsfehler
Ein Fehler ist beim Update Ihres Dokuments aufgetreten.
  • It might be that your Word installation location is the problem. Usually Word is installed at
    /Volumes/Macintosh HD/Applications/Microsoft Word.app:/
    but yours is at
    /Volumes/Macintosh HD 1/Applications/Microsoft Word.app:/
Can you move the Microsoft Word.app to its regular location, restart it and see if it works?
  • I think that may be somewhat confusing advice for @Hoffmann.co. That's just the main system volume's mount point. The system volume should be able to be named anything (e.g., "My Disk"), and there's no way to "move" Microsoft Word.app on its own — it would just mean renaming the system volume and probably restarting.

I guess one way I could see this being relevant is if there's actually some other volume mounted with the name "Macintosh HD" (and hence "Macintosh HD 1" for the other), which I guess could be confusing things.
  • @Hoffmann.co: So to clarify, if you have two volumes named "Macintosh HD", you should figure out why (you have some external drive connected, etc.), and try to make sure you only have one with that name. If you only have one and your system volume is actually named "Macintosh HD 1", you should try renaming it.
  • Yes, that's right. I have two volumes that have the same "Macintosh HD", that's something that Apple did after the last service of my Mac. I check with them if there is any reason for this.
  • After talking to Apple, they asked me to reinstall word. I try that under the "correct" volume and give you a feedback.
  • I think they're confused.

You can try reinstalling Word as a separate troubleshooting step, but that wouldn't have anything to do with what we're discussing — the two Macintosh HD volumes.

Do you have an external drive connected, or are you saying they left you with two internal volumes, both called "Macintosh HD"? Can you rename the old one — the one that's not your active system volume — to something else, and then restart?
  • I reinstalled office completely. It works now. Thank you for your help.
