New UI design

Is it possible to develop a completely new UI for Mac that aligns better with the native style of Mac applications? The current UI feels like it's running on Windows 7, and as I frequently use Zotero on both Mac and iPad, I experience a sense of disconnect. Elements such as icons, design aesthetics (skeuomorphic or flat), and window color schemes could potentially be revamped.

A new design is planned, but this is a silly thing to say. Zotero has always been designed on Macs, and nothing has ever been modeled after Windows. The current design dates from older (pre–Big Sur) macOS versions, not Windows versions.
  • I'm really looking forward to seeing the new UI go live. Incorporating more flat icons, a frosted glass-style sidebar, and a sleeker top bar are simple ways to give the UI a more Mac-like feel. Best wishes.
  • I am also looking forward for a new clean and modern design with fresh icons, with some polishing here and there.

I just hope that the main design in functional terms won't be changed heavily. To give the most important example: on the web library you cannot fold pdfs and notes under the entry; rather than that they reside only in the right pane. Hopefully zotero on desktop will remain in that regard how it is now

krs: That won’t be changing. We wouldn’t do anything that would reduce functionality or flexibility in the desktop app.

I am relieved to hear that. Actually the folding of entrys is one of zoteros best features.

Can you already say approximately when the new ui could come? I mean a rough timeline like "this year" or "next year" and not an ETA
