Rename Existed Files in Zotero 7

I have hundreds of papers in Zotero 6. After I upgrade to Zotero 7, I find there is a built-in file renaming feature in Zotero 7 like Zotfile. So how do I apply my renaming rule to the existing files? In Zotfile, I can easily do it using "Rename/Move" function.
  • You can select multiple files, right-click, and choose Rename Files from Parent Metadata. To select multiple files, either select them manually or construct a search that matches just those files (e.g., "Full Text" in All Fields & Tags mode) and then do Select All with Ctrl/Cmd-A (and maybe deselect any undesired matches).

But we'll soon be adding an option to automatically keep files renamed based on your renaming rule (including as you change parent metadata), so you may want to just wait for that.

Also, just to be clear, Zotero has always renamed files saved from the web, so this would only be necessary if you changed the renaming format from the default "Creator - Year - Title" format.
  • But my zotero have no such choice "Rename Files from Parent Metadata". I use zotero 7 Beta 36.

  • You need to click on the attached file to see that option in the righ-click menu.
  • I see. I think its better to right click on the item rather than the attached file.
  • An item can have many attached files (for example, supplementary files, different versions of the file, etc.) It does not make sense to add "Rename File from Parent Metadata" to the context menu for the item.
