Authors names not in correct MHRA order

Hi
I am a Zotero newcomer and using it to write an MA thesis. I have it set to MHRA 3rd edition latest update. I use a MacBook running the latest versions of MacOS [12.6.8.] and Safari [16.6] and the Zotero connector for Safari and the latest version of Word. Nearly all of my references are giving the author's first name second. I have typed in most of my Zotero entries directly, rather than getting Zotero to download them automatically. (Many are from primary sources not on the internet).
Any idea what I am doing wrong?
thank you
David
  • In Zotero for names there is a single field and two field mode. (One box, two little boxes). For names you want to use the latter and put the last name in the first box and the first name in the second box.
Can you confirm that you are using that correctly?
  • Thanks (sorry for delay in replying)
Yes, I consistently use the two little boxes and put the last name in the first box and the first name in the second box
  • Could we see some examples?
  • Certainly, here are a book, a report and a journal article
When I cut and paste them in for you in the forum box, they lose the italics of the titles

Eyler, John M, Sir Arthur Newsholme and State Medicine, 1885-1935 (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1997).

Wear, Algernon, Report of the School Medical Officer (Leeds: Leeds City Education Committee, 1909).

Taylor, D.M. ‘The Tuberculous School Child: With Special Reference to Open-Air Schools’, British Journal of Tuberculosis, 5.3 (1911), 195-203.

  • I may possibly have solved this, in that when I reinstalled the Word plug-in, even though it said it was already installed, the author name was in the correct order for the next reference I added. However, the whole reference was also underlined with a dotted line, which is a bit odd...
    Hey ho

The underlining is just this: https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/citations_underlined

It's telling you that it's not necessarily the final form of the citation.
