how do I stop Zotero from jumping to the bibliography every time I add a citation?

I'm using Word for Mac 2019, and Zotero 6.0.26. Every time I enter a citation, the cursor jumps to the bibliography. How do I either (a) prevent it from doing that, or (b) get back to my place in the text without having to scroll all the way back up?

Thanks!
Randy
  • What's the full version number of Word for Mac that you are running and what citation style are you using?
  • Good morning! I'm running Word for Mac version 16.75 (23070901). I typically use Chicago, but it does the same thing for both Chicago and APA. Thanks!

  • Does it happen in a new document?
  • Yes. It happens in every document.

  • Do you have any other extension installed into Word? Have you tried disabling them? Have you customized your Normal template in Word?
  • No other extensions. I have customized the Normal template. I get the same response when I start a new document with the updated template, or if I use an old version, even when I customize that particular document.

  • By old template do you mean some backup you've made or the automatically generated one by Word if you move yours somewhere else? If it's some backup, you should instead fully remove your currently customized Normal.dotm (just move it somewhere else), restart Word and see if it still happens.
  • Yep, still happens. BTW, sorry for the delay responding.
  • Can you temporarily create a new macOS account and see whether it happens there?
  • I could but, honestly, that's more effort than I care to invest right now, so I give up. As a workaround, I will just do the initial drafts using APA style, which puts the citation right in the sentence (no jumping to the bottom of the document). When I'm ready to finalize the document I will change to Chicago and it will create the appropriate set of endnotes.

Thanks very much for your ideas and help, though. I really appreciate it.

  • You said in the previous comment that it did the same thing with APA. Does it only do it with Chicago note style? If so, are you citing in endnotes? Does it do it with footnotes?
