Styles in Cite Preference Pane is Empty - All Styles Disappeared

Hello,

I am running Zotero 6.0.26 on Mac OSX 12.6.7
When I launched my zotero standalone I can no longer add any new items to any directory or group library. I found that the Style Manager in the Cite preference pane is empty, whereas it had the complete list of styles previously. When I attempt to "get additional styles" I click on a style to add it I get the message "An unexpected error occurred while installing "https://www.zotero.org/styles/acm-siggraph"
I can view PDFs. I cannot extract any highlights as annotations, and I cannot create any citations in a MS word document while writing or create a bibliography in MS word.
I have better BibTex installed.
I also have Zotero mobile app installed on my iPad.
I would appreciate any assistance possible in resolving this error and getting my zotero working again.
Thank you!
  • Restart Zotero and, if that doesn't help, reset styles fro the Advanced → Files and Folders pane of the Zotero preferences. If you're still having trouble, provide a Report ID.
  • Hello,

Thank you very much for the quick reply!
I have restarted multiple times and the issues persist.

I attempted to reset the styles from the Advanced > Files and Folders pane but it did not take effect. The "reset styles" button grayed out and remained that way and did not return to white or clickable for several minutes. The styles pane style manager window remains empty.

I submitted an error report for the issue with getting a style. That Report ID is: 2142367812

After pressing reset styles i didn't get any error message, but i checked the help > report errors pane and it had an error so I sent that. The report ID is: 346535711

I noticed that the better bibtex object serializer seems to be stuck and not loading. I found the debug log and saw it listed better bibtex translater so I submitted a debug ID D200124600 (I hope it was ok to do that)

Thank you, again very much for your help!

Did you try disabling all plugins, and resetting styles with all plugins disabled?

    Hi,

I found the tools> add on menu. From there I disabled Better BibTex for Zotero add on. Then I restarted. When I did that the styles showed up again in the Style Manager pane. I tried adding a reference and also making citations in word doc and that all worked fine. I restarted again and reenabled better bibtex and zotero continues to work. I am encouraged by this but a bit cautious since it's the first time I encounter issues with zotero.

Is there anything else I should check to make sure I don't have further issues?

Thank you, again, for your help!
  • If it's working, you don't need to do anything else.

But if you find a problem reliably caused by a plugin, you should report that to the plugin developer.
  • Even if you only suspect its Better BibTeX, please open an issue on https://github.com/retorquere/zotero-better-bibtex/issues.
  • I will let the developer know about the issue I encountered. Thanks again for your help! Very much appreciated!
