ACS pdf download fails

Hi,

so I can't download the PDF from ACS anymore. Looked in the forum and only found a thread from 2019.
Zotero 6.0.26
Zotero Connector 5.0.112 (Chrome & Opera)
Windows 10.

Example URLs:
https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/cm070461k
https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/cm070461k
but basically every acs publication is giving me a red cross on the full text pdf. I do have access via my institution, I can manually open and download the pdf in my browsers.

    I would bet that this stems from the fact that the ACS journals changed from just giving you the pdf when clicking the pdf button to now giving you the epdf (i.e. the button directs you to https://pubs.acs.org/doi/epdf/10.1021/cm070461k instead of https://pubs.acs.org/doi/pdf/10.1021/cm070461k).

    Edit: To be clear, I'm having the same issue (Zotero 6.0.26, Zotero Connector 5.0.111 (Firefox 115.0.2), Windows 10 22H2/19045.3208).

    Doesn't ACS has this epdf reader now for years and years already?

    Feels like one of those "new ideas" they had years ago and despite no one likem them they kept alive.

    It's not new to me as it annoys me for quite some time now on my slower laptop

    @DrHomann: I think it's new for ACS journals (for me it started mid-June this year), but the (garbage) epdf reader design certainly has existed at many other journal sites for a while (e.g. journals from Wiley, Taylor & Francis, Science, PNAS, CSJ). Considering that the design is very similar across different publishers, I'd suspect that it's related to some common content viewing software that they all use (maybe this https://www.papersapp.com/feature-spotlight-enhanced-pdf/).

    If it annoys you as much as it does me, you can use a browser extension called Redirector (https://einaregilsson.com/redirector/) and add a redirect with the following parameters:
    Include pattern (Regular Expression): ^(.*)/doi/epdf/(.*)
    Redirect to: $1/doi/pdf/$2

    I can replicate -- we'll take a look (and yes, this is related to the epdf, but we can typically work around that easily).
    For now, right-clicking on the Save to Zotero icon and selecting (Atypon) -- the second option -- should get you the PDF attached.

    I have the same problem. I tried the suggested workaround but in Chrome (Version 115.0.5790.170 (Official Build) (arm64)) on a macbook pro when I control-click on the Save to Zotero I do not find (Atypon) anywhere. Is it possibly called something else?
