Zotero / Mendeley error on a mac

I have zotero and this now keeps on interupting the document and things dissapear! - get this message
'you have opened mendeley desktop to insert a citation or select a style but you have not yet actioned this in mendeley desktop, until you do this microsoft word will continue'
version 13.1 ventura OS?
  • But I do not have Mendeley installed!
I love Zotero and I have been using it successfully until recently but this error message just keeps on happening.
Can you give me any information? I have briefly looked over previous comments in the discussion and it seems I am not the only one. I just want to stop it happening.

You installed the Mendeley plugin into Word at some point.

Again, this has literally nothing to do with us. We can't help you with someone else's software. Ask Mendeley for help with uninstalling Mendeley software.
  • Did you ever use Mendeley, though? As dstillman says repeatedly in the other thread, that message is 100% not from Zotero, which has no ability to produce the above text. If you've used Mendeley in the past, it's possible their Word add-on didn't uninstall correctly. You can probably remove the respective file (likely a .dotm) from the Word startup folder.
Other people have the same problem because many people who use Zotero have Mendeley installed or used to have it installed.
  • I think I just solved this. after many annoying similar messages.
I didn't know I had the Mendeley plug in from ... who knows when...
Go to Word. Select Tools on the top menu bar and click on Templates and Add-Ins…. Uncheck the “Mendeley … ” box and click OK
