Zotero will not insert my Bibiography in Word

Hello there,

I am sure this has been covered previously, but I can't find the solution...

I have just inserted all of my references in my PhD thesis (285 pages) using Zotero, but when I click on 'Insert Bibliography', nothing happens.

Please can you help me to rectify this problem, as I do not fancy having to insert all the references manually at this stage.

Thank you
  • You're likely just not waiting long enough. Particularly if this is a Mac, you might need to wait a while for it to generate the full bibliography.
  • Thanks so much. It has done it now. I clicked ‘refresh’ and that seemed to do the trick (but maybe it was more about being patient, as you say). Anyway, I am very grateful that it has worked.
  • Hello again,
Following my earlier question, the Bibliography did eventually insert before. However, I have since made a couple of small changes to my thesis, including adding a few more references. When I went back to the Bibliography, it had disappeared and said that it was set to not automatically update. It told me to click 'refresh' to see the Bibliography, but when I do that nothing happens (even after waiting a very long time, until my computer has gone to sleep). I have since tried deleting the Bibliography and inserting it again, but it still won't appear. The computer just freezes. I also tried cutting and pasting the whole thesis into a new document, but again it won't let me insert a new bilbiography. I am now considering cutting and pasting an old version of the Bibliography into the updated thesis and just adding the few new references by hand.
Please could you advise on whether this would be a sensible course of action, or is there another way to get the Bibliography to appear?
    Best wishes, Lucy Hughes
  • Likely just the same answer — you have an extremely large document, and the plugin in Mac Word unfortunately can take a very long time currently. You'll need to let it finish and make sure that your computer doesn't go to sleep. You can go to Help → Debug Output Logging → View Output to confirm that it's still processing (but you should then close the debug window, which can slow things down).
