Many titles have the wrong snapshot

I'm finding a bunch of saved titles with snapshots whose file name corresponds to the title, but whose content is the snapshot of another title I've saved. Meanwhile, some snapshots are accurate.

Is there a way to "resync" or recreate snapshots for titles, or is this a known bug, or what?

Thanks!

Did you save these pages from the same site?

We recently fixed a bug where saving multiple search results at the same time could save the wrong document for some of them. That fix is included in Zotero Connector 5.0.111 for Firefox now and will be available for Chrome and Edge in the next couple days.
  • Yeah, I just saved them one at a time through the Chrome (Mac) extension. And yeah, some are from the same site.

A couple examples that I've found so far:

    - Real URL: https://medium.com/codex/async-streams-in-c-a4edaa78094f
    - URL of snapshot that opens: https://medium.com/p/b2cca8c7d3a3

    - Real URL: https://medium.com/@anvarnurmatov/dapr-pubsub-under-the-hood-with-rabbitmq-64f1177a6929
    - URL of snapshot that opens: https://medium.com/p/298944c083b4

I've found that if I re-save them through the extension, they end up with the right snapshot, if that helps. Is there a way to redo the snapshot outside of that though?

I'm asking whether you saved pages from a search-results page at the same time — that's the bug that we're aware of, a fix for which is in the process of being rolled out. It's extremely unlikely that you would just have different pages saved when saving individual pages, but if you can reproduce that, we'd obviously want to know how.
Is there a way to redo the snapshot outside of that though?
No, sorry. If you've cited these items, created notes, etc., you can save the new item, merge the two items, and delete the old child attachment.
  • No, none were saved like that, these are just individual pages I saved.

I don't know how to reproduce it, I just know it happened. If I use "View Online", it goes to the right page. If I use "View Snapshot", it goes to a snapshot file that's named as if it's the right one--like in the second example I gave above, the file name is "dapr-pubsub-under-the-hood-with-rabbitmq-64f1177a6929.html"--but the content of that snapshot is what you see in the other link.

Interestingly the "other link" in one case is a title I saved with Zotero at another time:
Like in the 2nd example above, I'd saved the other one a minute earlier; while the other one isn't a page I've saved at another time.

    Strange, eh?

Are there any logs we can look at, or other debugging information I can enable?
  • Are the saved pages both pages you had viewed around the same time in your browser (even if you only saved one of them)?
  • In the case where I viewed both of them, it was close to the same time. In the case where I only saved one of them, I don't know because it was several months ago.
  • My best guess is that this is due to something about how Medium renders pages (client-side without full page reloads, I suspect). We'll take a look.
  • Cool thanks. If I can help, lemme know.
