OOo plugin inserts {Citation} instead of actual citation and "OK" button not visible with multiple

Sorry for cross-posting, but it's not really obvious which forum to put this under (e.g., it is version 2.0, it deals with troubleshooting, and it is the word processor plugin!)

I'm using Firefox 3.5.3, OOo 3.1.1, Zotero 2.0b7.2, and Zotero OOo Integration 3.0a3.

== Issue #1 ==
In my thesis, I got a "Zotero experienced an error updating your document" message. I deleted my bibliography and restarted firefox and openoffice (this has fixed problems for me in the past). Now the error message no longer appears, but when I insert a single citation, it just leaves {Citation} instead of the actual citation. If you move the mouse over the {Citation} field, it shows ZOTERO_TEMP RNDVM303JeYkD. See Error Report 1007250313 for when inserting a single citation into my thesis, or Error Report 878986791 for when inserting a multiple citation into the thesis.

In order to see if the problem was specific to the document, I restarted OOo and firefox and inserted a citation into a new document, and it works fine. However, zotero still detects some errors when inserting a citation in a blank document so I sent those to you in Error Report 1496131972.

== Issue #2 ==
When adding a single citation, the window size is fine. See http://tinypic.com/r/kd71nd/4

When switching to multiple citation, the "cancel" and "OK" buttons are no longer visible. See http://tinypic.com/r/105xrtf/4. It only becomes visible when the upper blue bar is dragged up a bit. See http://tinypic.com/r/15wxa1s/4

However, when modifying a "multiple citation", the correct behavior is shown. See http://tinypic.com/r/2cpf6md/4

btw, my screen resolution is 1280x800
  • If you don't mind, could you send your file to support@zot...org? We've fixed issue #2, and the fix will be available soon, but you're not the first to report issue #1 and we'd like to figure out what's behind it. Alternatively, if you don't feel comfortable sending us your thesis, can you narrow the issue down to a portion of your document?
  • I've sent you the troubled file, although right now it doesn't give any problems. I'm glad Issue #2 is being fixed.

    Thanks,
  • I'm still suffering from Issue #1 given above, even with OOo integration 3.0a4 which came out last week. So I broke all of the zotero field codes by pressing the "Remove Field Codes" button in the OOo integration. Then I reinserted each reference, using OOo integration 3.0a4. It worked fine for awhile, but now that I have over a hundred references in the bibliography, sometimes it won't work. For example, when I want to add a new citation, sometimes instead of adding the citation it just says {Citation}. Or if I want to convert a single citation to a multiple citation, it will just leave it as a single. See Error Report 1727403368.

    As mentioned, the problem comes and goes, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I like zotero, but the zotero integration in OOo is a disappointment and its unreliability makes it unusable for me.
  • On that note, the last couple of weeks with the OpenOffice plug in have been a little too much Alpha and not enough Beta - in other words, I think some of us are working on projects where we need more stability. I don't mind some beta testing, but unpredictable and unsolved issues every couple of days is a bit more than I can deal with right now, especially working on a big file with numerous references. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any choice with the OO plugin for Zotero 2.0. I don't think we can downgrade at this point, but is there any way to maintain a more stable plugin for big documents, and keep the frequent alpha upgrades for smaller docs or users who can afford to be more adventurous right now?
  • We're doing our best to fix problems as they come up. Unfortunately, if we can't reproduce them, it's hard to track them down. Without a problematic document or a set of steps to produce an issue, there's not really any way to know what's causing it.
  • Things are worse now. I just noticed that some of my citations are being replaced by other citations. For example, on page 60 of my thesis I tried to add a citation for Wilks. Unfortunately, the when I clicked OK, it just put the grey {Citation} field. So I deleted the field and tried again. That time it worked and showed Wilks. Then I happened to notice that on p.4 of the thesis one of the citations (Hoffmeyer, Martiny, Johnson; NEMA) had now been replaced with a citation for Wilks. I don't know how long this has been going on, but it sure scares the heck out of me.

    As mentioned in an earlier post, I've already broken all the links to zotero and manually readded my citations in the document. I just don't have time to do that again since the paper is due soon.

    I'm using Firefox 3.5.3, OOo 3.1.1, Zotero 2.0b7.2, and Zotero OOo Integration 3.0a4.

    I don't know if you want it or not, but I've just sent you the file. In Thesis 49.odt, the Hoffmeyer,Martiny,Johnson,NEMA reference on page 4 are good. The Chiulli 1999 reference is bad (it just came out of nowhere and replaced the existing one). In Thesis 50.odt, the Hoffmeyere,Martiny,Johnson,NEMA just went bad and are now replaced with a Wilks reference, which I had just entered on page 60 (recall that when I entered the Wilks reference on p60 it took two tries because of the {Citation} problem.
