One source cited three time in ref list?

Hi All,
I have many sources that has been cited two or three times in the reference list see example:

How can I fix this problem? I checked the duplicate items and found nothing, I checked my library and my collection, and I found only one item for this source!

Thanks

Zotero stores metadata from items cited in the document proper, so that the items continue to exist even if they're not in a Zotero library. This means there are two main ways you'd get this scenario:

    1. You cited different copies of the same item from your library and then deleted (rather than merged) the duplicates. This would included a scenario where you exported & re-imported your library, which creates, for Zotero's data model, completely new item.
    2. You or someone else cited these items from different libraries -- either a group library or someone else's personal library.

You can look at the word field codes (and specifically the item URI) for clues as to which of the two scenarios this is. https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/word_field_codes

@dstillman -- do we have a kb entry on this? Comes up a lot (I really hope some tools for this are in the dev pipeline for the Word add-on. This is tedious to troubleshoot and tedious for users to fix).
  • @adamsmith: I link to https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/given_name_disambiguation#other_causes for this and say that it's a different issue but same causes. But we could copy those to a dedicated page for this problem specifically.

And yes, we're working on something that will help with this.
