Associating pdfs with existing items after importing a collection (whilst avoiding duplicates)
After 20+ years using Endnote I've made the switch to Zotero in the last week (all my students are using it...). I have imported my substantial collection and I'm getting the hang of things. However, I would like to store my ~4000 pdfs with their respective records in the collection. I previously kept the pdfs separate from each item in Endnote, and a reason for switching to Zotero was to be able to make that process more efficient (everything in one place across devices). Question: Can I import and store the pdfs with their respective records without first creating a duplicate of each record which I then have to manually merge? (I can't do the manual merging for that many records).
I've discovered the Folder Import add-on which works nicely for getting whole folders of pdfs into the collection by generating a new record. It can even do it with their original group file structure. However, it also means that I have a huge number of duplicates which can only be removed duplicate by duplicate it seems.
I'd also like to control the file names of pdfs at import if possible, but that is less important.
Thanks!

Merger maybe not perfect compared to doing it manually, but certainly allowed me to do it quickly.
