How to Add from Evince?

edited May 8, 2023
Library of Virginia has posted a wonderful newspaper archive that is searchable and if you have an account, you can download a PDF of the page you are interested in.

However, it seems that my browser add-on doesn't recognize this source and therefore it downloads and opens the PDF in evince (Linux PDF Viewer).

For example, check this link out, https://virginiachronicle.com/?a=d&d=TEJ19150615.1.37&e=-------en-20--1--txt-txIN--------

If you have an account (free registration), the little tool bar to the left side of the viewer shows a PDF icon, clicking that either opens or downloads the PDF.

What is the best workflow for adding these pages to Zotero?

Is there a "blackhole" folder that Zotero periodically scans and adds from?
  • I renamed the title of this discussion because the old title did not clearly state what the problem was.

What is the workflow to add to Zotero from evince?
  • The Zotfile plugin (zotfile.com) allows you to set up a watched folder. As per the Zotfile page:

"ZotFile can rename and add the most recently modified file from the Firefox download or a user specified folder as a new attachment to the currently selected Zotero item. It renames the file using metadata from the selected Zotero item (user configurable), and stores the file as a Zotero attachment to this item (or alternatively, moves it to a custom location)."

    Would that do the trick?

Alternatively you can always just drag and drop PDF files into your library. If there's enough metadata Zotero can create the parent item automatically, otherwise you'll need to create one manually.
