Automatic Abbereviator does it wrong sometimes; how to disable it?

I didn't fine any statements regarding "abbreviation" when looking up in the CSL file. I don't know where from Zotero decides to abbreviate the journal name on some styles such as Vancouver and Medical?

How can I turn it off? or how can I add to its dictionary to convert journal names "correctly" to abbreviated ones?

Thank you :)
  • For styles that use abbreviated journal names, Zotero uses the content of the "Journal Abbr"-field. The content of the "Publication"-field is only used if the abbreviation field is empty.

  • Thank you :) so it was the matter of "container-title" in the CSL file :)

However, is there any way to tell Zotero how to abbereviate a journal name? it does it some times wrong. Does it have a dictionary to convert words to abbreviated versions? for example Journal to J?

Ifn so, it still lacks some names. How to add them manually tyo Zotero dictionary? or to upload corrected names to Zotero dictionary repository? (if any exists)
  • Journal abbreviations are record-specific. Change the "Journal Abbr." field for a particular record. Journal abbreviations are translator/site-specific. If you have a record with a bad abbreviation & know how you obtained that record, report it in the forums. In many cases, bad abbreviations are due to bad metadata at a publisher's site & we can't fix this. In some others, the translator for the site might be able to be improved.
  • Thank you very much :) I will report some of them in advance
  • Report: Google Scholar indexing system doesn't have any abbreviation data as metadata etc.

I don't know how to request them this, but I think it would be very nice for Zotero to have a cient side ability to abbreviate journal names.

It can easily use many abbreviation lists available on the web. Just needs a conditional algorithm ... maybe EndNote has patented this, I don't know. but regardless the patent stuff, this is implementable...
  • long discussion on this in several threads if you do a search - baseline is that people agree with you and something along those lines will eventually happen, but it's far from "easy", so it will still take some time.
  • First thank you dear Adam for replying approximately all requests :)
second, I must correct myself. I agree that this won't be easy. I meant "doable" by "easy" ;)
third, sorry that I didn't search before requesting
