Zotero windows opening in the background when using gnome and the libreoffice plugin

I've been using this combination for a while, and every time I choose an option in libreoffice, like to add a new citation, the window opens in the background and I need to press the super button and click on the opened window.

I tested the same in xfce and kde, and I noticed that it only happens when using gnome. However, I found no one else commenting about this issue, so I thought it would be interesting to open a new discussion.

Does this happen to someone else?
  • Zotero doesn't get to control window focus, it is up to OSes. You should test some combinations of window state, like not minimizing the main Zotero window if you do, or switching focus from Zotero directly to LibreOffice (instead of switching from some other app, like the browser). There may be a simple way to adjust your workflow that will make the window appear correctly. Since this is controlled by the OS, or the window system protocol (Wayland/X11) in this case, there may be some setting you can change that will prioritize new Zotero windows.
  • For me the Gnome extension Grand Theft Focus did the trick. It removes the 'Window is ready' notification and brings the window into focus instead. Running Fedora.
  • I have no such issue with my setup. Maybe my specs would help some folks in figuring out what is going wrong with their setup.
