Zotero is consistently opening the same PDFs upon startup

When I start Zotero on macOS, it consistently opens the same PDFs, not those I had opened when I closed Zotero before.

This happens every time I

1. Close Zotero with a certain set of PDFs opened

2. I start Zotero

3. It does not open the ones I had opened when Zotero was closed but a totally different set (but always the same one)

    This would happen if Zotero for some reason can't update session.json in the Zotero profile directory when it closes (e.g, due to file permissions or security software), or if Zotero is crashing instead of closing cleaning.

    Thank you!! I checked the session.json file: It says that it was last changed today at some point but it isn´t updated when I close and start Zotero.
    In the security settings Zotero has all the permissions it asks for.
    I cannot tell if Zotero is crashing instead of closing. At least there is no crash report or anything.
    Do you have an idea how to fix the problem?

    Delete the file and try again.

    It worked! I deleted the file, opened a different bunch of pdfs, closed the program and Zotero is now updating the file again and opens the previously opened pdfs.
