can't change document preferences

Using Zotero version 6.0.23, with Microsoft Word. File was a shared doc in Teams with multiple contributors. Final version won't allow change to document preferences.

Tried closing & restarting Word and Zotero, downloading doc, accepting revisions and stopping tracking, looked for citations in captions. I isolated a fragment of the doc to just one citation, copying and pasting to a new document, and I experience the same problem with that fragment. Zotero works fine for me in other Word documents.

Am sending that fragment to support.
  • That document works fine for me. There's no style selected, but I can click Add/Edit Bibliography, choose a note-based style (e.g., Chicago note), and get a bibliography.

If that's not working for you, provide a Debug ID for reproducing the problem.
  • Thanks very much. Yeah, I can create a bilbiography for that fragment. But try designating the style to be APA 7th edition. In my world, that gets me a "Zotero experienced an error updating your document" error.

    Debug ID is D2111638437.
  • That doesn't fail for me on macOS, and we can look into it on Windows, but don't do that — you have citations in footnotes. So you'd want to start with a note-based style, and then you could switch it to an in-text style if that's what you wanted. Starting in Chicago note and then switching to APA 7 works as expected for me.
  • @acosbey the fragment you sent us has a citation in a Word endnote. Zotero currently has issues when converting styles with citations in endnotes. You can change the style by choosing a note style (like Chicago) and choosing to store Zotero citations as Footnotes, then after the conversion choosing your style of choice. Sorry for the trouble.
  • Thank you!
