Passwords for Account Managers/Admins

When we reset the password for one of the email addresses associated with the master account, it changed the password for all of the other email addresses associated with the account. Are the email addresses listed under the "Manage Email Addresses" user settings just aliases for the same primary account? Or should each email address have their own separate password? Seems odd that all users would use the same password.
  • Are the email addresses listed under the "Manage Email Addresses" user settings just aliases for the same primary account?
Yes. You shouldn't be entering different people's email addresses there — that's just where you'd enter personal and work email addresses, for example.

You should delete the ones you've entered. Once you've done that, people can create their own Zotero accounts, and you can then invite them to groups as desired.
  • Thanks for the clarification. But then that means that people who are just members of groups and not account Admins can't make new groups and invite others to new groups. We were hoping that multiple users could have the Admin privileges to create their own groups and invite members rather than one person having to be the overseer of it all and other users having to come to that person each time they need a new group made.
  • Everyone can create groups, though, you don't need any sort of special account for that. The only thing you'd need a special -- in the sense of paid -- account for is to share attachments >300MB in groups.
  • So, if members have their own free Zotero accounts and create a group, then is that group connected to the paid account? If the paid account does not invite them to the group but rather they create their own group, how can they take advantage of the unlimited storage space?
  • Well, no, you can't take a single unlimited account and turn it into, de facto, any number of unlimited accounts just by attaching free accounts (or multiple user emails) to it. Even as it is, the group pricing model that Zotero offers is ridiculously generous with an unlimited number of groups owned by a single account for $10/month.

If you want more flexibility, consider getting a Lab account, which is a still very reasonably $450/year for 15 unlimited accounts: https://www.zotero.org/storage/institutions
