Installing on new Mac "Unable to check for updates Please check your internet connection and try ag"

Installing on new Mac and get "Unable to check for updates Please check your internet connection and try again" after completing "Drag here to install" and double clicking on Zotero in Applications folder.

I'm connected to the internet. I have it installed on another Mac and works fine.

How can I resolve this?

    Where exactly are you seeing that? You mean if you do Help → "Check for Updates…"?

    Is this computer on a corporate network or on a machine with third-party security software?

    Here is what I did:
    1. Downloaded Zotero Mac from website
    2. Doubled clicked Zotero-6.0.22.dmg
    3. Dragged Zotero as per "Drag here to install" instructions
    4. Went to applications folder and double clicked Zotero. Popup appears with "Unable to check for updates Please check your internet connection and try again".

    I am connected to the internet. I'm given no options or menu items to play with.

    This is a new personal computer on a new M2 Macbook Air. No 3rd party security software installed.
