"Show File" shows my Mac home directory, not the file

Hi folks

I recently replaced a 2014 Mac with a new one, with Apple silicon, and I did a clean install to avoid installing obsolete files. I'm running Zotero 6.0.21 and I've set my Zotero home directory to ~/Documents/Zotero. All files have downloaded from the online database. I've not found any to be missing when when I double click on the relevant item.

Whenever I click 'Show File', my home directory opens, rather than the folder where the file is. Any ideas how to fix this?
  • The devs will almost certainly want a debug ID for clicking "show file" for a file that you know is available locally. https://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output
  • Thanks, Adam. I've enabled this.

    Submitted with Debug ID D574575929
  • Looking at the debug file, Zotero knows where the PDF I want to show is located, it's just not opening the location
  • You're saying ~/Documents/Zotero/storage/DBEWGQZQ exists, and if you double-click on the item in Zotero the PDF opens, but if you then do a Show File immediately after that it shows your home directory? Or does it work after you've opened the file once via Zotero?

Note that if you have the Documents folder set to sync via iCloud, you need to move the Zotero data directory out of there, as the data directory can't be in a cloud storage folder. And if it is there, even files appearing in Finder may not actually be present on the system.
  • Thanks for your reply. The folder is not set to sync.

I've just replicated the issue with the same file as before (you have access to the debug file). I've double-clicked the item in Zotero and the PDF opens. I control-click to Show File and my home directory opens, not the folder where the PDF is located
  • I'm using Ventura 13.2.1, if this helps
  • ...I've moved the Zotero folder to the default location and Show File now works ok. I guess that solves the problem (but I'd prefer a custom location).
