Upgrade StorageZotero extension not working on Macbook

I'm sorry if this question has been asked before, but unfortunately I have not been able to find a solution to my problem yet.
I have installed Zotero on my MacBook Air 2020 M1, and I have not gotten the Safari-extension to work. I had no problems on my old Windows-Laptop. So far I tried deleting and re-installing, restarting safari/zotero and turning the Macbook off and on again (that usually does the trick, but not here), and installing the beta-version instead, because someone recommended that.
The way I read up on it, it is not possible to directly install extensions on current safari? However, whenever I open the Extensions-window there is simply no Zotero-extension to enable or disable.
I'm quite worried this is all because of some dumb misunderstanding on my part, but I would really appreciate it if anyone had any more ideas.

dstillmanAs per the support page, make sure you've tried 1) deleting Zotero from Applications, 2) restarting your computer, and 3) redownloading the app. Just deleting and reinstalling may not be sufficient, nor may just restarting without having deleted the app.
