Z not working in big document.

Hello
Submitting PhD in January and yesterday realised that while Zotero is working perfectly fine in a new document it's not adding the citations to my long document (approx 80,000 at present). I've tried all the recommendations suggested i.e., log off, software update, copy in to a new document, create copy of document etc etc but nothing is working. I'm using a MacBook Air and never had a problem until needing to cite in the big document. The other thing is it keeps asking which version I need, I use APA 7th, it's never done that before either unless I've logged out and in again. I also tried it with Sociology (ASA I think) one but that didn't work either.
Help please..... this is a panic I really don't need!! I love Zotero so this is frustrating!
Thank you
Jude
  • On Word for Mac, Zotero will crawl to an almost stop in large documents. If at all possible, I'd recommend doing all authoring for the PhD in individual chapters and waiting with assembly until as late as possible. You may have to let Zotero run for a long time (easily 1h+) once you have the whole thing assembled for it to update citations & create the bibliography.
If possible, doing that last step on a Windows machine will make your life much easier
  • Hi Adam
Thank you for taking the time. I have left it to the last minute, I’ve just put all the chapters together. It was running more slowly on the bigger chapters but still ok. I might just separate them out again and do the bibliography for each chapter then cut and paste it back into the one document although then I guess there would be some repeats. Anyway, now I know it’s an issue and not just my issue I will find a way round it somehow! What is the reason it’s not as good on a Mac?
  • The connection that Mac Word provides for Zotero and similar tools is much slower than the comparable ones on Word for Windows and LibreOffice. I don't believe there's much improvement in sight.
