Issues with references - multiple entries in bibliography

So in a document the same source has been referenced multiple times so that in the bibliography the same source appears multiple times under different reference numbers. Is there any way that I can fix this or will I simply have to go through the document and find where this has occurred and fix it manually?

    It sounds like you have duplicate items in your library. You can merge then using the Duplicate Items view and then click Refresh in the plugin.

    If you previously deleted duplicate items from Zotero after citing them once rather than merging them, you may need to delete the citations and reinsert them, being sure to select from the library section of the search results rather than the Cited section.
