Linked File Directory
Hi there,
I've recently tried to start using Zotero on my work computer after having no issues on my laptop and am struggling to set it up properly to use it across both.
On my laptop which is where the majority of my files are stored (I have a specific "source documents" folder so I don't accidentally move them around) I've been fine.
On the work computer though, I can't seem to access the linked files. So I tried to store the files but there's way too many to be useful.
I tried to figure out the Linked File Directory to set that up and I have no idea. I've read the knowledge base about 5 times trying to work it out and I can't.
Can someone walk me through it?

If you want to use Zotero file sync, that only works with stored files (not sure what "way too many to be useful" refers to: people obviously use stored files for many, many thousand files).
If you want to use another mechanism, you'd have to describe that (but note that syncing linked files does require more care and expertise: that's why the relevant settings are under "advanced")
My ideal set up is to have the files on an external hard drive as a back up I guess, as well as saved on my laptop.
I currently have the lowest level of paid storage right now and I guess my lack of knowledge is making me anxious about having to buy more (I'd really rather not.)
I'm super open to suggestions for the easiest way to work across computers for the technologically inept! I moved to Zotero on the recommendation of a friend really recently so I'm not really across all of its capabilities just yet.
