Formatting of Citation

Wondering is someone can help me trouble shoot formatting errors wihen adding a citation manually. Under Authors, I will type in Smith, Anne (as is customary when a citation is pulled in) it will appear as Smith A (under AMA style). But with a manual entry, it will appear as Smith, Anne. Any ideas why this might be happening?

    You want to type Smith -tab- Anne to actually have family and given name in different fields. If there's only one field, click the two small white rectangles next to the name to toggle
