Random "p" added to in text citation?

I've recently been seeing random "p"s pop up in the midst of my text at the in-text citations. Does anyone know how to get rid of this?

I've tried:
* Removing pages from the entry for that article in the Zotero library
* Looking at the style editor with the same reference (but in the style editor the P doesn't show up!

  • That's the page number specified in the in-text citation, not the item itself. If you edit the citation, you can click on the items and will see a 1 in the field for "pages" for the item corresponding to 53.

No idea how it'd get there -- are you pasting whole titles into the quick format search bar in Zotero?
  • If this wasn't intentional, I think it is likely that your search text for a citation in the Word plugin ended with a number?

For example, say, you search in the red citation bubble for an item about the cancer gene BRCA1 by typing "BRCA1". After selecting the relevant item in the list below, Zotero adds "p. 1" to your citation, because it incorrectly imagines you are citing page 1 in that citation.

The solution is simple, though. Click on the chosen item in the red citation window (which you can also get via Add/Edit Citation in the Zotero tab in Word). Then delete the number from the page field.

    That's just a bug. We'll fix.
  • Thank you all SO much! This was the issue, I had somehow inadvertently gotten page numbers specified in the in text citation. Like adamsmith said, it might have happened for some of the citations where I pasted whole titles in.
