renamed item

I have renamed my attachment in the local folder. How to make the item name the same as the attachment name (the name I named locally) when importing zotero and fetching metadata, instead of modifying my attachment name according to some rules
  • You can disable automatic renaming from the General pane of the preferences, though we recommend letting your computer do this for you — it's a waste of time to name every file manually. If you want to customize the name format based on the metadata, the ZotFile plugin can do that (and an upcoming version of Zotero will add similar renaming options).
  • What I want is that the parent class name is automatically changed to be consistent with the attachment name when it is created, rather than modifying the attachment name.
  • I'm not sure what you mean here. Can you take a screenshot that shows what you're referring to, upload it somewhere (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.), and provide a link here?
  • @Wzyyyu: Please don't create new threads for the same issue. (And particularly don't do it when someone is already responding to you.)

  • I'm sorry I posted the same post. It's my first time to participate in the discussion. I'm not very familiar with the rules. My original title is 31 Effect..., when I import literature, the name of the parent class is Effect..., which is different. I hope the name of the parent class is the same as my original name, and I do not need to manually adjust it one by one. In this case, it is unfriendly when there are many literature.

  • But what you call the parent class is the title of the article -- which
    a) Zotero gets from an online database, so it wouldn't use the filename of your PDF nor could it be made to do so, but more importantly
    b) is used for citations, so you really wouldn't want some number at the beginning: the article title doesn't start with 31.

What are you using those numbers for?
  • Can I add a column to display the attachment name instead of using shift+to expand the entry to view the details. I'm just taking an example. Some documents are named according to my own naming rules when I download them, so that I can better identify them.
  • I'm afraid not, no.
  • @Wzyyyu: One of the main purposes of a reference manager like Zotero is to keep a database of the metadata of your research sources, with title, authors, etc. If you just want a file manager, Zotero probably isn't the right tool for you.
  • I see. Thank you very much.
