ISSNs and DOIs for Web Pages

Hi folks, I'm creating a zotero library as a subject guide for our users and I would like to add journals and data sets. What is the best way to create a zotero item for a journal -- perhaps a web page? If so, can ISSN please be added as a field to the web page item type? The same goes for data sets -- can DOI please also be added as a field for web pages?
  • For whole journals, use whatever item type you like (eg, Journal Article) and enter this in Extra:
    Type: periodical

Similarly for datasets, use any type and enter in Extra:
    Type: dataset

That will tell Zotero to cite those items as periodicals and datasets respectively. Note that many citation styles are not yet set up for periodical citations and so may not be exactly correct out of the box.

Thanks for your reply. Perhaps because we're not interested in using Zotero's citation features -- It doesn't appear that adding "Type: dataset" (minus the quotes) to the Extra field had any impact whatsoever. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Perhaps it would be better to support custom item types and let users add whatever fields they want???
  • Both of these item types will be added in a future version of Zotero. Items with the type modified in Extra like above will be automatically migrated when proper item types for them are added.
