is there a zotero connector for libreoffice?

Yes, it comes pre-installed in Zotero, should install into LO on first run, otherwise install from the Cite tab

that does not seem to work. how, where shld the connector appear in LO? I am working on Mac 10.13.6, LO 7.4.2.3, Zotero 6.0.15

It's right in the main toolbar. See

well I HAVE MADE some prgress but then.... i get the following message
Could not create Java implementation loader
?? any throughway? have downloaded the java as required. Using a MacOS HighSierra 10.13.6

What version of Java is selected in the Advanced pane of the LO preferences?
(Also, if possible, you should update macOS. There are no known problems with 10.13 but the vast majority of people are using newer macOS versions at this point.)

Java: I dont know. It reads, Oracle Cor, 19.0.1
have tried several to download java, but it does seem I get the right version
update MacOs. I am worried if I do so I will loose access to word8 which is my word processor at the moment and is free to use, no need to subscribe
