Problem saving PDFs to Zotero in Chrome

Hi, I followed all the steps in a closed Zotero discussion to troubleshoot and fix problematic saving of PDF using Zotero Chrome connector. But the problem persisted. It has been about 2 months since I faced this issue. Please advise how I can fix it.

This is the URL of the closed discussion: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/82593/problem-saving-pdfs-to-zotero-in-chrome-vivaldi

This my debug ID: D1269022964.

Thanks!
  • (Don't waste time following steps in a years-old thread that concludes by saying the problem was fixed. That wouldn't have anything to do with your issue. Just start a new thread and report the problem you're experiencing.)

What's the exact problem? It's saving metadata but you're getting a red X for the PDF? Something else?

Can you provide a Debug ID from Zotero (not the Zotero Connector) for the save attempt?

Hi, yes it is saving metadata but I'm getting either (1) a red X for the PDF (2) the pdf item remains greyed out for a long time and eventually does not get saved. I've disabled all extensions and only had Zotero on Chrome open to troubleshoot. But the problem persisted.

This is Debug ID for when I got a red X for the PDF: D319725220
The article link I tried to save from (I have school access to this article): https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/0963721414547414?journalCode=cdpa

This is Debug ID for when the item remains greyed out: D935235996

Appreciate your prompt help so much. This problem is giving me a great headache and hours of troubleshooting on my end was futile.

Your institution's proxy server is misconfigured. You'll want to report this to your IT department, sending them to this page:

    https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/incomplete_cert_chain

They can see that the SSL Labs test shows "Chain issues: Incomplete" for the proxy domain.
  • Hi dstillman,
Thank you for your kind help. Unfortunately, my institution's IT department is clueless as to how they are supposed to fix the issue. Do you have any more details I can share with them to understand the misconfiguration better? Thank you!
  • I linked to a page with detailed technical information.
  • And to be quite clear -- this has nothing to do with Zotero: they have EZProxy set up incorrectly. OCLC's detailed instructions on setting up SSL certs for EZProxy, including intermediary certs, are here: https://help.oclc.org/Library_Management/EZproxy/Secure_your_EZproxy_server/010SSL_configuration?sl=en
