What is the variable for "report number"?

How is it possible to include the field "report number" in the citation styles? I guess I would be able to customize the style(s) I use if I would know in which variable the information is stored for "report number". However, I did not find anything on this here.

Hope someone can help.
  • I had the same problem. You have to use the type="book" and the variable="number", see http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/8989/resource-type-mapping-is-confusing/

to be precise (and avoid confusion) you don't have to use type book, no.
While report defaults to book, if you're using <text variable="number"> in a generic context (that doesn't exclude books) that will work, too. You can also specifically address reports using <if type="report">
  • Hi. I am also trying to include report numbers in my citations. I've looked through the programming language to find a place to activate this, but I don't know what the hell I'm doing. Is there someone who can help with this?
  • you'll need to modify a style or get someone to modify a style for you.
For the latter, you'll need to say more precisely what you want/need
  • Yeah, modifying the style is where I got confused. In Chicago Style (full note with bibliography), I'd like to include report numbers in my footnotes and bibliography. I couldn't make much sense out of the code, so I'm resorting to begging for help. Many thanks to anyone who can help.

To reiterate: I need to include the report number in my footnotes and bibliography for all items that I have labeled as "report" in Chicago Style (full note with bibliography).
  • "include" isn't precise enough -
what's it supposed to look like?
  • Author, "Title," Report Type, Report Number (Place: Publisher, Date).

    For example:

World Bank, "Second Power Project," Project Performance Audit, 1891a (Washington: World Bank, May 20, 1979).

    Thanks a ton.

download the style by using "save as" on the "Raw" link on the top right.
Install the style by dragging the downloaded "cmos-report-number.csl" into any open Firefox window and OK when prompted. any problems let me know.
  • That seems to be working. I owe you a beer.
  • Dear Adamsmith,

thanks for the trick! Worked great for me as well (even 6 years later :o)
