MLA 8 Double Quotation Marks instead of Single Quotation Marks in Works Cited list

Dear community,

I have a problem with the quotation marks as well as punctuation within the biliography generated by Zotero Conncetor in Microsoft Word. I have already changed the Language of my Zotero App to US English, as I have read online that this could solve the problem, but it did not, unfortunately.

I need to use the MLA 8 citation style, which, according to the official MLA research guide, will list items in the Works Cited list in the following way:

Topping, Alexandra. "Four-Fifths of Young Women in the UK Have Been Sexually Harassed, Survey Finds | Sexual Harassment | The Guardian." The Guardian (in italics), 3 Oct. 2021, https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/mar/10/almost-all-young-women-in-the-uk-have-been-sexually-harassed-survey-finds.

However, when I use Zotero Connector to create a Works Cited List in Microsoft word, the same item is listed like this:

Topping, Alexandra. ‘Four-Fifths of Young Women in the UK Have Been Sexually Harassed, Survey Finds | Sexual Harassment | The Guardian’. The Guardian (in italics), 3 Oct. 2021, https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/mar/10/almost-all-young-women-in-the-uk-have-been-sexually-harassed-survey-finds.

As you can see, instead of "Title.", the bibliography generated with Zotero Connector uses 'Title'. So, I need two changes here:
1. double instead of single quotation marks
2. the closing quotation marks need to come AFTER instead of before the full stop

Could someone please help me?

Thank you

Christina
  • You will need to change the language under "Document preferences" in the Zotero tab in Word directly.
Changing the language of Zotero itself will not change this.
  • Thank you so much! I did not see this button earlier.

I have changed it now and the list has been updated. Now the style is exactly how I need it to be, thank you very much!
