How to handle double download?

edited September 8, 2022
I recently started with Zotero. I discovered that I accidentally downloaded one version via Google Chrome first and later one version via Safari. I want to use the Safari version. But I do not succeed in getting rid of the Chrome version. The 'wrong one' pops up every time I try to install the Zotero icon, or when I try to install the download option in the toolbar. How do I get rid of the Chrome version and be able to ( try to) install the Zotero icon and the download option?
  • This is some sort of misunderstanding. You can have the Zotero Connector installed in every browser on your computer. They have nothing whatsoever to do with one another.

But I'm not clear on what you're doing here or what's happening. Can you take a screenshot, upload it somewhere (e.g., Dropbox or Google Drive), and provide a link here?
  • Thanks for your comment. What I think happens, is that I have installed the Zotero icon in the toolbar at the bottom, being the icon that belongs to the ‘wrong’ version. Every time I press this I enter this ‘wrong’ version. I can ‘only’ get the right version by entering via zotero.org.
I noticed that in the ‘wrong’ version my name is Michiel_Noordzij and in the ‘right’ version it is Michiel Noordzij.
This might also interfere with having installed the download option in the upper toolbar. It might ‘disappear’ when I open the ‘right’ version. (?)
If this is so, I will have to remove the icon installed and get rid of the ‘wrong; version.

Question: hoe do I do this safely? (E.g. not losing everything from the ‘right’ version).
Other question: Can I still install Zotfile? It did not respond to my efforts.

    Thank you in advance, Michiel
  • There's a lot of confusion here — by "toolbar at the bottom" I think you're just talking about the Windows taskbar that starts the Zotero program, and by "option in the upper toolbar" I think you're talking about the Zotero Connector browser extension in your browser toolbar? — but it sounds like you just have multiple Zotero accounts. You can set up syncing with the correct account from the Sync pane of the Zotero preferences.

  • Yes, confusion allover! It does not help not being digitally savvy and English not being my native language.
The thing indeed is that I have two accounts. Zotero does not seem to accept me changing the username in the accountsetting. I will now reopen Zotero using the same username on both my Mac and my iPad. Let you know.
  • Again, you change the username in the Sync pane of the Zotero preferences in the desktop and iOS apps. Nothing to do with your account settings online.
  • i think I found it. i just removed everything and entered Zotero on both devices with the same correct username. And I also got the connector installed. Thanks very much for your help! The only thing left now is writing this book…
