Please help - I think I messed up my file location by clicking too many things.

Hello,

So...I'm in a bit of a pickle. I downloaded Zotero, downloaded Zotfile.

I tried to connect my Zotero to Google Drive (Couldn't figure it out), then proceeded to try Dropbox (glitch?).

So far, none of the files I annotate will update to the most recent changes, nevermind the files don't get saved to the new location (in drop box).

Yes I changed the zot file preference, and the zotero - advanced - files and folders.

Nothing shows up in the drop box folder, but what did show up was the Styles, Locate, TMP and Translator (which are half of zotero's original folder that was DL into comp).

I would just like to set up a pathway to my google drive, so that when I add highlights to a document, the most recent version is updated to the google drive (I understand the original will be on the comp I originally downloaded the document).

Thank you for taking the time to help me out, I really appreciate it.

  • Sorry, we can only help with stored files, which are the default for a reason. Linked files are a far more advanced, error-prone configuration. Somebody else might be willing to help you, but no guarantees.

Also, to be clear, this sounds like you set your data directory to your cloud storage folder, which is extremely unsupported, triggers a warning in Zotero, and is likely to corrupt your database.

If you're having trouble with this, I would strongly recommend switching back to using stored files with the Zotero data directory in the default location.
  • Yes I did that initially but then changed it back to default location...

Thank you for taking the time to answer
