Zotero ZotFile

Dear Zotero community,

My name is Father Andrew. I’m a doctoral student and I used Zotero the past year.

I'm trying to set up Zotero ZotFile on my Mac so I can access all my PDFs on my iPad and iPhone.

I watched a few YouTube videos and followed the tutoring step by step.

It is important to note that I have subfolders under my library that contain books and pdf files.

First Step:
I changed the old
Under Advance, File and Folders, Base directory:
I changed the old path which is /Volumes/GoogleDrive/My Drive/Doctor of Ministry/Zotero
To
/Volumes/GoogleDrive/My Drive/Doctor of Ministry/ZoteroAttachements
Data Directory Location: is Default

Second Step:
ZotFile Preferences, Location of Files, Custom location: /Volumes/GoogleDrive/My Drive/Doctor of Ministry/ZoteroAttachements

Third Step:
I selected all in My Library and right-clicked and selected Managed attachments, Rename and Move. It starts working but I can see some “No DOI found, etc”. It moved a few PDFs to ZoteroAttachements folder on google drive.

Fourth Step:
Whenever I try to open documents, I get an error message that tells me to find the path to the file.

When I revert to the old path /Volumes/GoogleDrive/My Drive/Doctor of Ministry/Zotero I was able to open them.

Can someone help?

Thank you,

My understanding is that you do not need to enter anything for Linked Attachment Base Directory (under Zotero Preferences\Advanced\Files and Folders) just because you're using Zotfile to control your attachment file location. My Zotfile-driven setup has no entry there, and everything works fine. Auto-saving of PDF files via the browser Connector (to the Custom Location specified in Zotfile preferences), and the Manage Attachments-Move\Rename operation, all work as they should.

However I am not accessing files across the same devices as you, so your case may require a different setup - if you need Zotero to use relative paths to your attachment folder(s). So it is possible that the way you have specified the Base directory for Zotero's LABD is contributing to your problem. Perhaps others can advise on that particular aspect ?

But the key problem is perhaps that the movement of most of your PDFs appears to have failed in Step Three. I would try that again with smaller groups of files. And then verify if Step Four works for the moved files.
