Zotero won't open without update

Zotero brings up the message "a recommended update is available, but you do not have permission to install it" and will then close the application when I click on. It is installed on my work laptop where we can only install software through the university software centre which doesn't have the latest version available. Is there anything I can do now to be able to still use the software or will I have to wait until IT can get back to me about permission to install the update?
  • You're saying you get this when you start Zotero and can't install the update? Does this happen after restarting your computer?

    This is on Windows? It might help to go to %LocalAppData%\Zotero in File Explorer and delete the updates folder.
