Zotero bug - Google Docs

I am having trouble adding Zotero citations through Google Docs. When I’m on the Google doc, I select the in-text reference and navigate to the Zotero tab (“add/edit citation”) but am repeatedly getting this settings issue message. Based on my google research it appears that this is a fake error message, with the same message appearing on other platforms like Adobe.

The message reads: "Zotero" wants access to control "System events". Allowing control will provide access to documents and data in "System events" and to perform actions within that app. There is the option to select "OK" or "Don't allow" but it flashes the screen super quickly before disappearing (could barely get a photo of the message).

I would love advice on how to resolve this potential bug, many thanks in advance.

It's not a "fake" error message. You need to allow access for Zotero word processor integration to work properly.

It shouldn't be disappearing, though, and I'm not sure why that's happening for you. If you go to System Preferences → Security & Privacy → Privacy → Automation, do you see Zotero.app in the list, and can you check System Events.app? You might first need to click the lock icon in the bottom left and enter your password before you can make changes.
