Zotero citations not working on Google Docs

For a few weeks now every time I try citing something on Google Docs Zotero will immediately pop up a message saying that all my citations have been unlinked. I've tried removing everyone from the document, creating a new document, using a different account, re-installing the app, everything. I just don't know what to do anymore because it was working just fine before and all of a sudden decided it wasn't going to anymore.
  • Are you saying you're having trouble in a new, empty document, or just with an existing document?

For an existing document with unlinked citations, see https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/google_docs_citations_unlinked to understand how this happens and how to recover from it.
  • Yes, I've checked that link, but the problem is not that it's unlinking citations, because there aren't any, since every time I try citing, it will say that they are unlinked. Plus this is happening both on existing documents and new ones :(

Can you explain the exact steps you're taking in a new document and what's happening, and also provide Debug IDs from Zotero and the Zotero Connector for the operation?
  • I create a doc., write something, go to the Zotero tab and press the button "Add/edit citations", choose a citation style and then whatever document I want to use.
    Debug ID from Zotero: D83946483
Debug ID from Zotero Connector: D54752803
  • Can you disable all other extensions in the browser except for Zotero Connector, restart the browser and try again? Does the issue persist? If so, can you submit a Report ID from the Zotero Connector?
  • Yes, the issue persisted. This is the report id fro, zotero connector 1284004261
  • Can you create a new user profile in Chrome and see if it's also broken there? Does it work in your existing profile if you go into Connector Preferences -> Advanced and check (or uncheck) the "Enable Google Docs Integration v2 (NEW)" checkbox (you will need to refresh the Google Docs page after toggling that checkbox)?
  • I tried creating a new google user profile and unchecking the Google Docs Integration V2 and still not working.
  • Open some document in the Google Docs with the Zotero Connector installed and press F12 (or Fn-F12). Developer tools should appear. Switch to the console tab. Are there any errors? Can you copy them and paste somewhere (like pastebin.com) and link them here?
  • DevTools failed to load source map: Could not load content for chrome-extension://gighmmpiobklfepjocnamgkkbiglidom/browser-polyfill.js.map: System error: net::ERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND

That is the only thing it says
  • That shows you still having other extensions enabled, though. What about in the new profile?
  • my bad, I disabled them and tried again.

  • Sorry, we have not seen anything like this before. Could you copy the contents of the developer console after a failed attempt to insert a citation? Then could you temporarily install Firefox and see if you get the same issue there? Also, could you take a screen capture video of an attempt to insert a citation in a new document, upload it somewhere (like dropbox) and post a link here or send it to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread?
