Multiple Error Messages (Report ID 446775534)

Dear Zotero Tech Support Team Member,

Re: Report ID 446775534

Soon after installation of Zotero 6.0.9, I have noted generation of multiple error messages (one after one), informing on a Zotero error, and advising to restart Zotero. It is not clear which functionality is actually affected by these errors (or error messages). Error messages persisted after restarting Zotero and/or restarting my PC( which uses Windows 10 OS). I have not updating Zotero for a long time, and have other issues before the update, which appear to be resolve after update, but never have multiple (serial) error messages. It is also appear that messages may be triggered by file downloads, but is unclear if it is the only reason, if any.
Thanks,
Aleksandr
  • Can you provide a Debug ID for Zotero startup through the crash, using the "Restart with Logging Enabled…" option?
  • Debug ID D2074445665
This is a long debug output. I have enabled debugging after an previous error, and submitted after the last (next) error. No multiple error messages in these cases. No restart of Zotero after the first error message. Both error are appear to be happen after file download, but other files download (in between these two errors) have causes error messages.
  • Why can't you provide what I asked for?
  • I could not easily trigger this error, but I would try. Thank you for your patience.
  • Dear dstillman,

See submitted Debug output D1513183340. This is appear a short and clear debug output between two errors. The previous error has been triggered by downloading a reference with an attached file. I have cleaned previous debug out, disable and then enable debug output logging again and tried reproduce an error by saving a reference with an attached file. New error message have appeared and I have submitted debug output referenced above.
Note: so far I have been able to ignore such error messages continue [successfully] working with Zotero w/o restarting it.

    Thanks,
    Alex

    1) How old is this computer? How much memory does it have? Does it have an SSD or a hard drive?

    2) Does this happen after restarting your computer, with no other programs running?

    3) What exactly were you doing when this occurred?

Basically, it looks like PDF full-text indexing is taking a very long time for you, and then you're maybe editing a note while that's still running, and that's timing out and resulting in a crash.
  • Dear dstillman,

Thank you for your observations. As you noted the reported error is related to time-out which may relate to performance of my PC (which does not have SSD, and have many parallel processes). Errors in-fact happen during editing bibliographic records immediately after download of pdf file. I would try isolate errors observing if an incidence of errors is lower after PC restart, and by restraining myself, in extent I can, from editing data in Zotero after pdf file download when Zotero is busy running other processes.
