Plugins do not work in Word2008 for Mac

Hi everyone! I need your help.

Problem ID: 577612064

I just installed MacWord Integration 3.0a4 in my Mac OS X 10.5.8, but no sign comes up in Word2008.
I tried almost everything appeared on the discussion board... but nothing happens!!
I went Add-on --> MacWord Integration 3.0a4 --> Preference --> Reinstall, but error message comes as follows.
"a necessary component does not appear properly"
Although it says Zotero fix the problem automatically, nothing happens.

I even tried to Run from Applescript which I found on the board "No sign of zotero in Word or Open Office" (applescript://com.apple.scripteditor?action=new&script=set%20W2008_SCRIPT_NAMES%20to%20%7b%22Add), it says the script is not correct. It says, "the script ends where should be a string".

I got my Mac in Japan, is that the problem?
How can I fix it?
  • Thanks, Simon!

But I have already tried this... It didn't work... :(
The same message "a necessary component does not appear properly" appeared, and it says Zotero re-start Firefox and fix the problem. I click ok, but Firefox did not re-start until I click cancel.

Do you have any other idea?

Well, this is the first time we've seen this particular issue and we're not really sure what's causing it, but we'll try to figure it out. Open the Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities) and type the following followed by return:

    /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox
When Firefox opens, press OK to the Zotero MacWord warning dialog (once), and then copy and paste what you see in the terminal window here.

I tried, Terminal, but no warning dialog appeared.
Following is what I saw in the terminal window.

Last login: Sat Sep 19 21:07:19 on ttys000
    [PC NAME] /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox

I opened word after this, but there were no Zotero icons.

I clicked Reinstall, from Tool --> Add-on --> Zotero --> Preference, and these text appeared on Terminal. I hope it helps.

    [PC NAME] /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox
/Users/[MY NAME]/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/8crqdulp.default/extensions/zoteroMacWordIntegration@zotero.org/install/install.applescript:920:921: script error: Expected expression but found unknown token. (-2741)
  • Hello??

Does anyone have an idea??? I should work on my paper!!
    I really need your help!
  • I just found out that I cannot Export my library.
I tried to put the items into BibTex, but I could not read it. The result was same when I used Zotero Rtf.

    How can it be fixed???
    Please help me!!!!!!!!

You'll have to provide a report ID for the export issue, but we may have fixed your Word plug-in issues. Try updating the MacWord plug-in to 3.0a5 and installing this version of pythonext (should be newer than what you have installed already) and let us know if everything works out.

Update: The link above was incorrect. It's fixed now. Sorry for the inconvenience.
  • Simon,

    Thank you soooooo much, Simon!
Now it works and I could see Zetro menu in Word.
But Export seems not work yet... I'll report it in different form.

    I appreciate your help!
  • I have the same problem but I not better with the new version of pythonext.

Here is what I get in the terminal window when I start Firefox:

It looks like you have an accented character in your home directory name. Do you have any idea how this got there? It's almost certainly what's causing this issue, and as far as I know OS X uses your short name when you initially set it up, which isn't allowed to contain accented characters or spaces.

EDIT: You can change your short name by following these instructions, which will fix issues with Zotero and potentially other applications.
