Is this limited to arxiv.org or is it happening for any site? This error suggests the latter.

Can you provide a Debug ID (different from a Report ID) from the Zotero Connector for loading a page and trying to save?
  • Hi @dstillman,

Yes, it is limited to arxiv.org, the problem happens when I save the item from the outer arxiv.org page, for example:
https://arxiv.org/abs/2002.05123, not the direct link to the PDF file
I can make the Connector work if I go to the PDF link.

Before, I can Save to Zotero even at page (https://arxiv.org/abs/2002.05123), not necessarily go to the PDF link.

this is the Debug ID: D284437052

You're running a beta version of Zotero from February. Install a current version and figure out why you weren't receiving auto-updates.
  • Hi, I ran into this thread because I encountered the same problem.
For my case, updating zotero fixed the issue and now I can fetch papers (and metadata) from arXiv.

    I was also using
    Zotero 6.0-beta.1+8c846468f.
The reason I was using this version is because I had zotero installed as an arch package
    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/zotero-beta
    which is now out-of-date.
I don't know why but the "Check for updates" functionality of zotero was not working with this, and I wasn't aware that the package became out-of-date.
Now I switched to this package
    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/zotero-bin
    which seems to be well-maintained.
  • (it makes sense for a maintained package to disable Zotero's own check update mechanisms, and have the updates run through the package manager -- that's why it's important that packages actually are well maintained, ideally building automatically from Zotero releases)
