Hi I have a Mac and I have been using Zotero find but all of a sudden it gives me this error that its unable to load translators and styles so I cant insert citations into word. I have tried resetting and deleting to reinstall Zotero again but nothing worked.

[JavaScript Error: "Unix error 13 during operation remove on file /Users/[…]/Zotero/translators/Airiti.js (Permission denied)" {file: "(unknown module)" line: 0}]
Did you copy your Zotero data directory from another computer? There's a problem with the permissions in that folder. You'll need to fix it (via File → Get Info in Finder) so that your current user has read and write privileges to all files and folders within that folder.
  • Hi, I had to move stuff into a different account but after I did that back in January everything was running fine and zotero worked. I went into File --> and then Get info in Finder and turned everything on Read and Write Privileges and it still did not work.

  • You'll need to debug this on your end. This just means that Zotero can't write to its own data directory, and it's due to your moving stuff between accounts. It's not a problem in Zotero itself.

You can try just deleting the 'styles' and 'translators' folders in the data directory and restarting Zotero, but it's likely there are other files in there with the wrong permissions.
  • Alright, how am I able to debug then?
  • Hard to say, but you need to figure out what's preventing Zotero to write to that folder. One thing to check would be that you actually changed permissions for enclosed files as described here: https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/change-permissions-for-files-folders-or-disks-mchlp1203/mac#mchlpd4e1e66
  • I have checked! And all settings set to read and write!
  • Again, you’ll need to debug this on your end. Ask a technical person to help you if you’re having trouble. The permissions on your system are likely still messed up from moving files between accounts. This isn't a problem in Zotero itself. We're not able to provide general OS troubleshooting here. Zotero just obviously needs to be able to write to its own data directory to work properly.
