HELP ME

REPORT ID 235688005

I've been tried everything.
Firstly in my word page didn't appear Zotero plug. I did what you suggest and in the end it appeared.
Now I'm trying to add citation but word says ''Word could not communicate with Zotero. Please ensure that Zotero is open and try again''. obviously it is open and obviously I tried to restart everything.
The issues is that If I go to tools-add olds i can't find any extensions, no word to disable and enable.
Also If I go to Word Processors part in Zotero ''preferences'' the only option available is "Use classic Add Citation dialog"
Please help me.
I don't know what to do more.
  • Hi,
First-> I installed Zotero and I didn't find Zotero Plugin in word document.
So I opened Zotero Tools-> add ons-> extensions but I didn't find anything (no Zotero word for Mac integration to disable/enable).
Second-> I opened Zotero preferences-Z cites->word processor-> but again here I find only ''Use classic add citation'' (anything else)
Third-> I copied Zotero.dotm in word startup folder. In this way I finally could see Zotero plugin in a word document.

The issue is that when I tried to add citation, appear this ''Word could not communicate with Zotero. Please ensure that Zotero is open and try again''.

I re installed both Zotero and Word but there was the same problem.

    Can you help me?
  • You need to follow the steps in the section I linked to.
  • I tried, but I cannot find extensions.json.

->Close Zotero, open the Zotero profile directory, and delete extensions.json

maybe could be this the trouble?
  • If you're having trouble following the instructions, you need to say exactly what you tried and what happened. If it helps, you can take a screenshot, upload it somewhere (e.g., Dropbox or Google Drive), and provide a link here.
  • I'm following the instructions in this section:

“Word could not communicate with Zotero. Please ensure that Zotero is open and try again.”

First, make sure the Zotero app is open and running on your computer. Note that this is the Zotero program, not the Zotero website or Zotero Connector in your browser.

If Zotero is open and you're still receiving this error, the most likely causes are previously having started Zotero from a disk image instead of dragging it to Applications and starting from there or having two copies of the Zotero app in different locations on your computer (e.g., a “Zotero” and “Zotero 2” in Applications). Close Zotero, open the Zotero profile directory, and delete extensions.json. Then restart Zotero.

If you continue to receive the error after deleting extensions.json, go to Tools → Add-ons in Zotero and make sure the Word and LibreOffice plugins are enabled. If they show as disabled, enable them. If they show as incompatible, you may have previously installed a very old version of the plugin, and you should uninstall it and restart Zotero. Current plugins are bundled with Zotero and don't need to be installed separately.

FIrst->done it's open and run in my computer.

Second-> I don't have two copies. the instructions say to delete extensions.json but I don't find it.
  • You don’t need to paste the text I linked to. You need to actually say what you tried, in your own words, and what happened when you did. The instructions are correct, so if you just keep repeating that you can’t find extensions.json, we’re not going to be able to help you.
  • ok, I'm not saying the instructions are incorrect. The instructions say to delete extensions.json, I don't know where I can find this folder or what it is.
I tried to search ''extensions.json on my Mac but doesn't appear anything with this name that I can delete.
I'm asking you where I can find extensions.json becouse if I don't find in I cannot delete it.

The page says exactly where to find the file. It doesn't say anything about searching your Mac.
  • (in case that's the problem, "Zotero profile directory" in the instructions is a hyperlink that takes you to a description of where to find said profile)
