Citations copied to new doc preserve order of old letters after the year for the same author
When I copy texts that include citations from one Word document into another, the citations transfer properly to the new document, in APA format. However, when the same author has multiple publications in the same year, the letters that follow the year (to show the order of presentation in the document) preserve the ordering from the original document. I can't get them to sort according to the order of presentation in the new document.
For example, citations in my new document appear in the following order because that's how they were ordered in the original document: First (Smith, 2021c), then later on (Smith, 2021a), and then after that (Smith, 2021b).
I need the letters after the year to be ordered alphabetically in my document, so that I can tell which one was cited first, second, third... Can you please advise?

adamsmithedited May 28, 2022Most citation styles (and definitely APA) use the letters based on the bibliography, not based in order of appearance. That's likely what you are seeing

bwiernikSo to echo what adamsmith says, this is correct APA style. The letters are ordered by alphabetical appearance in the bibliography (have been since APA 5th Ed)

vanastasAh, thank you for clarifying that for me :)
