Error 1594909730

I'm having a problem: [JavaScript Error: "API key not set"]

version => 6.0.8, platform => Win32, oscpu => Windows NT 10.0; WOW64, locale => pt-PT, appName => Zotero, appVersion => 6.0.8, extensions => Zotero LibreOffice Integration (6.0.0.SA.6.0.8, extension), Zotero Word for Windows Integration (6.0.0.SA.6.0.8, extension)

Anyone has had this problem? In practice it means I can't sycn because even though I log with the correct details (I'm sure) it does not accept my log in.

Any suggestions on how to solve this?
  • What exactly is the problem?

Are you clicking Set Up Syncing in the Sync pane of the preferences?
  • I click on the sync button and it asks me to log in, which I do (and I'm sure with the correct password since I've changed it a couple of times just to be sure!) but it keeps saying that the details are incorrect, and I'm sure they are not. I've tried uninstalling and installing again Zotero in my PC (twice) also it did not work. I can save documents and use my PC library, but my web version is totally not syncing and I also cannot work with groups. (I have a paid plan for the 60year and it has recently been renewed).
  • Delete the username and password fields completely, restart Zotero, and try again. If you're still having trouble, provide a Debug ID for attempting to log in. (Your password won't be logged.)
  • I've done the Debug ID, this is the output ID:
    D488894740
  • That doesn't show you trying to set up syncing at all. Again, you need to click Set Up Syncing in the Sync preferences after entering your username and password.
  • Thank you. But the problem I'm having is that I'm not able to log in to Zotero on my PC, it does not accept my username and password, although I know they are correct and they are the same that i use (and the only ones I have) on my online account. I just don't understand why it is doing this. I've tried re-installing Zotero, changed my password online several times, and the error persists.
  • You don't seem to be understanding what I'm saying. There's a button in the Sync preferences literally called "Set Up Syncing". If you don't click it, Zotero won't save your password. Your Debug ID does not show you attempting to set up syncing. If you don't do that, you will continue to get an error every single time you click the Sync button.
  • Well, I'm sorry, but I don't understand still. According to what is in the zotero documentation , this would be the first step for syncing:
"The first step to syncing your Zotero library is to create a Zotero account (which is also used for the Zotero Forums). Then, open the Sync pane of the Zotero preferences and enter your login information in the Data Syncing section.
By default, Zotero will sync your local data with the Zotero servers whenever changes are made. To disable automatic syncing, uncheck the “Sync automatically” checkbox in this section. You can sync manually at any time by clicking the “Sync with zotero.org” button on the right-hand side of the Zotero toolbar." - Correct?

The problem is my username and password are not being accepted, when I do this first step
  • Look at this screenshot:

    https://www.zotero.org/support/preferences/sync

There's a button called Set Up Syncing. You're not pressing it (or at least you didn't press it when you provided the Debug ID above). If you don't do that, you're not setting up syncing and the Sync button in the Zotero toolbar won't work, no matter what you enter in the Username and Password fields.
  • Yes, i had done this. But I've just repeated again the 'debug id', could you check it now?: D1133650742
    Sorry to bother
  • No, that doesn't show you clicking Set Up Syncing. It shows you clicking the Sync button in the Zotero toolbar, which is not going to work if you don't first click Set Up Syncing.

Can you take a couple screenshots of what you're doing and the error you're getting, upload them somewhere (e.g., Dropbox or Google Drive), and provide a link here, or email to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread? (We'll respond here either way.)
  • I've managed!!! thank you.
